Building on a launch project which engaged over 800 people with art events at heritage sites in their region, this autumn Beacon is providing free coach tickets for guided tours of five heritage sites. The tours are to be offered twice daily over four consecutive weekends. Each tour will last three hours, with the act of travelling part of the focus for the audience. Five leading contemporary artists will create work that responds to a 'sense of place' at the five heritage sites: Phyllida Barlow at the Maltings in Sleaford; Simon Faithfull will use the coach itself, its video screen, stereo system and windows; Doug Fishbone at Ashby de la Launde Village Hall; Gerard Williams at South Kyme Tower; Roxy Walsh at Helpringham Manor Farmhouse. Five smaller commissions by emerging artists will be shown at The Reading Room and Chapel in Wellingore, responding to the notion of a 'place of sense'.
