Lucy Clout
Revesby Village Hall

When I was younger, 4 or 5 years old, our family went on holiday to the south coast of Wales. One day I was playing in the fields surrounding our house when I saw this large orange furry caterpillar, which I picked up.

Within seconds I felt like my hands were actually burning (show audience hands). My mum told me to be quiet, because she couldn't see anything but this caterpillar. Within 24 hours my hands had swollen to twice their normal size (make motion with hands). I was rushed to the local hospital, where the doctors were able to counteract the poison. The hospital staff said I had been very unlucky, this one highly venomous insect is found within only one small stretch of coastland in the British Isles, amounting to only a few kilometres.
